Bill Maher had quite the rant on Friday night. No, he wasn’t talking about conspiracy theories and deep states. Instead, he focused on the excessive regulations and red tape that hinder progress and development in the United States.
According to the host of “Real Time,” it seems like you can’t build anything in America these days without jumping through endless hoops of overregulation by legislators and bureaucrats. From houses to windmills to toilets, everything requires a ridiculous number of permits, approvals, and paperwork.
Bill Maher went on to provide some outrageous examples of this overregulation. He mentioned a toilet in San Francisco that cost a whopping $1.7 million because it was deemed necessary to keep people from defecating on the sidewalk, which in turn was causing an increase in car break-ins.
In San Francisco, it takes a mind-boggling 87 permits just to build a home. That’s right, 87! Talk about bureaucracy gone mad.
And if you think that’s bad, consider this: Wyoming recently approved the construction of the largest wind farm in North America, but it took a whopping 18 years just to get permission to START building. As Bill Maher cheekily quipped, when the first paperwork for the project was filled out, Leonardo DiCaprio’s girlfriend wasn’t even born yet.
It’s not just a theoretical issue for Bill Maher. He personally experienced the frustrations of dealing with excessive regulations when he tried to install solar panels at his house. It took him over a year of navigating through bureaucratic hurdles to get the project completed, and he didn’t shy away from expressing his frustration multiple times.
In Bill Maher’s eyes, America is slowly turning into a modern-day Gulliver, tied down and immobilized by excessive regulations and red tape. Watch the video to see his hilarious and thought-provoking take on this issue.
