Travis Kelce’s ex-girlfriend, Kayla Nicole, has revealed why she unfollowed Brittany and Patrick Mahomes on social media. She explained that she still cares about them, but had to create distance to protect herself amid Travis’ new romance with Taylor Swift.
Kayla, who dated Kelce for five years, recently hit the “unfollow” button on her former friends’ Instagram accounts. She confirmed that she discussed this decision with Brittany privately.
In an exclusive interview with People, Kayla said, “I do think it’s important to publicly address this because I did publicly unfollow people. The reality is, I know these people in real life and I’ve communicated to them the reasons behind my public decisions.”
Contrary to speculation, Kayla clarified that she is still in contact with both the Mahomeses and Travis himself. She emphasized that breaking up doesn’t mean cutting off all communication and that ongoing relationships exist.
Kayla added that Brittany knows she still cares about her. However, she decided to distance herself in the public space to avoid further drama and focus on moving forward with her life.
“That’s a lot of history and friendship there, that doesn’t change overnight,” said Kayla. “But publicly, because things are happening so quickly and so publicly, I have to protect myself. That’s really all that is. The love is still there.”
