Joe Jonas has fired back at Sophie Turner, accusing her of crossing the line by attempting to permanently take their kids to England, in violation of a court order in Florida. Joe’s representative has responded to Sophie’s claim that Joe has “abducted” the kids by refusing to hand over their passports for them to return to England as agreed upon. Joe’s representative states, “After multiple conversations with Sophie, Joe initiated divorce proceedings in Florida, as Florida is the appropriate jurisdiction for the case. Sophie was aware that Joe was going to file for divorce. The Florida Court has already issued an order preventing both parents from relocating the children. Sophie received this order on September 6, 2023, more than two weeks ago.” Therefore, Joe argues that Sophie’s position would directly violate the Florida court order that ensures the children remain where they are. Joe also clarifies that while he believes the children’s home is in the United States, he is open to sharing custody with Sophie even if she permanently moves to England. Joe’s representative states, “Joe is seeking shared parenting with the kids so that they are raised by both their mother and father, and is of course also okay with the kids being raised both in the U.S. and the UK. The children were born in the U.S. and have spent the majority of their lives in the U.S. They are American citizens.” Joe’s representative expresses surprise at Sophie’s recent actions, stating, “Joe and Sophie had a friendly meeting in New York last Sunday, when Sophie came to be with the kids. They have been with her since then. Joe understood that they had reached an understanding to work together towards an amicable co-parenting arrangement.” However, the situation took a turn when Joe’s representative states, “Less than 24 hours later, Sophie indicated that she wanted to permanently take the children to the UK. She then demanded that Joe hand over the children’s passports so she could immediately take them out of the country. If he complies, Joe will be in violation of the Florida court order.” In reality, now that they are no longer living together as a family, their previous agreement is not legally binding in the divorce proceedings. The ultimate factor for the divorce judge is what is in the best interests of the children.
