Kevin Brennan — a former ‘SNL’ writer and comedian — is not exactly known for his tactful jokes. When news broke of Matthew Perry’s death, Kevin couldn’t resist the temptation to make an incredibly insensitive comment about the late ‘Friends’ actor.
Kevin, who had a brief career as a writer for ‘Saturday Night Live’ and was once a rising comic in NYC, took to Twitter to mock Matthew Perry’s passing, posting a tasteless message that read, “DROWNED IN A HOT TUB. HAHAHAHA.”
Despite Kevin’s failed attempt at comedy, it’s worth mentioning that he has a famous connection in mainstream Hollywood through his estranged younger brother, Neal Brennan, co-creator and writer of the legendary ‘Chappelle’s Show.’
While Neal has thrived in the industry with numerous writing credits and his own Netflix comedy special, Kevin’s career hasn’t quite reached the same heights. He hosts a relatively unknown podcast and does occasional gigs here and there.
It’s important to note that Kevin’s crude remarks do not reflect Neal’s character. In recent interviews, it’s evident that Neal prefers to keep his personal life separate from his work, and he rarely discusses Perry or ‘Friends’ publicly.
As for Kevin, he continues to insert himself into the comedy scene by commenting on popular comedians he once associated with. However, his tasteless joke about Perry’s death is far from laugh-worthy, and it’s unclear how Neal feels about his brother’s post.
We have reached out to Neal for comment but have yet to receive a response.
