Quavo, the hip-hop artist, recently made a visit to the White House. He had a sit-down meeting with Vice President Kamala Harris to discuss the issue of gun violence, something that is very personal to him.
Quavo was accompanied by his mother and sister, Titania Davenport, who is the mother of the late Takeoff. They all met with Vice President Kamala Harris at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
During the meeting, Quavo expressed his support for the Break the Cycle of Violence Act. He believes that gun violence should be treated as a public health risk, similar to substance abuse and depression.
Quavo also shared his own personal stories and urged Vice President Kamala Harris to fully support their mission to combat gun violence.
Vice President Kamala Harris publicly thanked Quavo and his family on her Instagram for using their platform to honor Takeoff and raise awareness about gun violence prevention.
Quavo recently launched the Rocket Foundation with the goal of impacting gun laws at both the state and federal levels. He specifically came to Washington D.C. to secure stronger political support, especially in underserved areas.
Earlier in the day, Quavo met with various Representatives from the Congressional Black Caucus to advocate for the policy. He ended the day by cohosting a reception with community leader Greg Jackson, where lawmakers and gun violence prevention advocates discussed potential solutions.
Quavo firmly believes that gun violence is preventable and came to D.C. with the goal of building safer communities.
It’s definitely an uphill battle, but it’s a step in the right direction.
